INSPIRED EATS FOR YOUR CINCO DE MAYO FIESTA

Let the fiesta begin! Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner and now is the perfect time to start planning your fiesta. There is more to Cinco de Mayo than simply a bag of chips and a can of salsa! With a little bit of creativity and imagination, the options are endless. You can embrace the Mexican traditions, culture and cuisine with authentic dishes with an added modern flair. From cocktails to desserts and everything in between, I’ve outlined some of our favorites that will make your party unique, memorable, and of course fun.

WHITE WINE LOVER’S SANGRIA

Cinco de Mayo is famous for the consumption of margaritas, whether blended or on the rocks, spicy or classic, salt or no salt – the list goes on. Margaritas as tasty as they can be, they can sometimes be dull and boring serving the same old every year. So, why not try to switch things up a bit this year and make things fun and fruity by introducing a white wine sangria. Not only will you surprise your guests but you’ll tap into your creative side. The great thing about sangria is you can add your own personal touch and flair to it. Here at Artful Foods Catering, we personally like to add fresh berries from the farmers market to our white wine sangria.  It’s perfect for the rising temps and for all the white wine lovers out there. Cheers!

MELT IN YOUR MOUTH MOLOTES

Appetizers are what helps get the party started. A simple quesadilla can always suffice, however why not try something different by challenging your culinary skills by serving Molotes. I am sure you are asking yourself, what are they and how do I pronounce that? Molotes are fresh tortilla dough stuffed with any kind of filling you prefer. We like to add mushrooms, green chiles and cheese or chicken. These yummy bites can satiate the appetite of your meat lover or vegetarian friends. We promise they won’t disappoint!

SIMPLE SASSY SALAD

A bright and colorful salad is always a bonus to any dish. And it’s healthy! Salads are hard to mess up, however the key is finding fresh vegetables and ingredients, otherwise you are left with wilted and mushy lettuce and vegetables. Try adding a blood orange salad with mint leaves, shaved red onions, fennel and walnuts to your beautiful fiesta food display. The blood oranges will really make this dish pop in terms of taste and color.

TRADITIONAL TASTY ENCHILADAS

Oftentimes we focus more on the main dish than any other dishes.Typically, it’s what seals the deal and what we’ve all been waiting for. Everything else was just a teaser to what’s to come. As much as we love getting creative and adding a modern twist to our culinary adventures, we also love keeping tradition and adding a familiarity to our senses. With that being said, we recommend serving a delicious casserole of enchiladas for your Cinco de Mayo fiesta. You can make chicken, shredded beef or even a vegetarian version with tomatillo or mole sauce. Why choose – mix all three so everyone’s happy! Bon appetit!

THE MINI CHURRO

The fiesta isn’t over until we satisfy our sweet tooth! There is nothing more perfect than a yummy churro served up with dulce de leche and chocolate sauce. We love serving mini churros not only for their beautiful presentation but it also doesn’t intimidate anyone, regardless if they’re in a food coma or not.
